I woke up today thinking about how I wanted to do some singular fanfiction recommendations.
So here I am.
Writing. Singular. Fanfiction. Recommendations.

It has dawned on me that I have many rare pairs.
Some rarer then others. (I mean I literally live on one, ONE Qi’ra x Dryden fic. Not that I necessarily “ship it” but God, is that fic good..)
So today I thought I’d do a singular rec for one of my favorite fanfics of all time. Please understand that I have read hundreds of fanfics from various sights, authors, and pairings. Long fics, short fics, drabbles, small novels.
This takes the cake, darling.

-Okay, let’s spill some damn tea.
I’m not into OT3+. Nope. I find them weird to read, hard to keep track of, and just...just plain odd. Now, I haven’t read many OT3’s and lord knows, that’s how homo fanfiction was (WAS) to me. So I can’t judge, right?
However. However. However.
This is perfect. The perfect slippery slope to lead me into OT3’s.

What I don’t remember: I don’t remember how I found this fic. I am pretty sure this was the fix that introduced me to the idea of Reyux, but most likely, I was searching for Kylux (no hetero ships for me, thank you) and stumbled upon it.
What I do remember: I read this fic for the first time in a hurry. Desperate to get to the end, to find out how this brilliant fic ended. As soon as I got to the bottom? I scrolled right back the beginning and I savored it. Took my time, read each word and every sentence, and just let it wash over me. Every pure sentence. Like this one here:
|| “She is not wed for her skin, or for her hair, or the curve of her red, disdainful, lip, no more then he for his cold eyes or the smooth line of his throat. ” ||It paints a mental picture that just...just so heart wrenchingly beautiful and I just...
What’s the point of being a fanfiction writer when THIS exists?

I love the plot line, the characterization, the drama, the writing. Allllll of it.
The plot line: Somethine different from the usual. Maybe it’s just they way Cormallen writes, but suddenly the age old “arranged marriage trope”, is new. Interesting. Refreshing. The idea of Rey being Leia’s daughter and being in an arranged marriage with Emperor Hux (do NOT get me started on the “Emeperor” headcanon.], and Kylo being Hux’s enforcer, but also lover.
Damn.
It just works so well, the whole proxy thing, the way it almost ALMOST feels like a Reylux wedding instead of a Reylux one. You can tell that Cormallen did their research and quite frankly, nailed it.
The characterization: Cormallen is not afraid to write the characters as they are. Rey: Strong, independent, not innocent, but uninformed. Kylo: vicious, evil, and yet, still intriguing. Hux: cold, calculating, and unrepentant. They aren’t afraid to write these characters in character, but yet somehow a little bit of Cormallen bleeds through and these three characters are so very, very theirs.
Very well done on that account.
The drama: I love how you can gain a general sense about what’s happening; the arrangement between Leia and Hux, the “parallel universe” you get glimpses of, the bedroom scene, Poe (just, Poe), THE BEDROOM SCENE, the post bedroom scene, the dialouge, the marriage, the last scene.
It’s almost begging for a sequel. I don’t want to be another one of THOSE people asking for another’s part. And usually I’m not.
But if any fanfic could warrant it...
The writing: While it’s beyond tempting to just post the ENTIRE FIC on here,, here are some of my favorites:
Rey in reference to Hux:
|| In her veins flows the blood of the kings of old — considerably more so than in his. ||Rey in reference to herself:
|| “There is, of course, no doubt; she may not be doing, but she is currency...” ||
In reference to a dagger:
||“I hope I do not have to the need to use it any time soon, “ she says, and for the first time she sees the Butcher smile.
“Do you? Pity.”||

I could go on and on and on, but I just need to meantion that the smut is class A+. Hot af, but simple. It has some voyeurism; Ren and Poe (Poe is just there because he has to be...) watching Rey and Hux...finalize their marriage.
Altogether, I probably need to stop now.
This is a fabulous fanfic and I highly recommend it to anyone in search of something to read.
